Opening Day and Reusable Bag Design Contest

Join us on April 5th from 8:30 am to 12:00 pm for opening day! PRFM also welcomes back the second annual Reusable Bag Design Contest, calling all students to submit designs for this year’s market totes by Friday, March 14.

In partnership with the Peachtree Road Farmers Market, COUNTRY Financial is excited to announce the second annual Peachtree Road Farmers Market Reusable Bag Design Contest. The competition presents an opportunity for students to showcase their talent on reusable shopping bags that will be distributed at the Peachtree Road Farmers Market throughout the season.

This year’s theme is “Grow Your Own Way.” Students are asked to include imagery inspired by the spring/summer season and the corresponding regional market goods, such as fruits, vegetables, flowers, etc. We also ask participants to illustrate the spirit of the city. Designs must include the words “2014 Peachtree Road Farmers Market.”

The reusable shopping bags are part of the Peachtree Road Farmers Market initiative to promote healthy, environmentally friendly communities. Thousands of farmers market attendees will receive these custom designed tote bags this season, free of charge.

The student who submits the winning design will receive a $1,000 scholarship and the opportunity to have his/her artwork displayed on reusable shopping bags distributed throughout the city. Additionally, two runners-up will each receive a $500 scholarship. These designs will be unveiled on April 26 at the Peachtree Road Farmers Market, and the three finalists will be invited to attend.

Download the entry form and full contest instructions and official rules here. Entries must be submitted to the address below by Friday, March 14 at 4 p.m. EDT. If the entry is being sent by mail, please allow sufficient time for delivery by due date. If received after the deadline, there is no guarantee the artwork will be eligible. Winners will be notified through their schools or via phone/email the week of March 17.

A Word of Thanks: Market Manager Lauren Carey

It's been quite a year! Over 5,500 Facebook fans, 2,296 Twitter fans, 70 vendors, 38 wonderful markets, 35 chef demos, 40 amazing volunteers, two Holiday Artist events, hundreds of dogs and one cat, baby goats, pigs, ponies, the Sunday Supper evening, a Halloween parade, and a Market Mash-Up! This season we saw our Wholesome Wave Program double yet again, processing nearly $30,000 in food stamp benefits at the Market.

We have also seen our farmers struggle with major health issues and the worst weather season in years. All along we have been grateful for your continued support. We are also grateful to our sponsors: Country Financial, Whole Foods, Wholesome Wave. Without the support of our sponsors, our chef demos and the food stamp matching program could never happen.

Peachtree Road Farmers Market is a special place because of the smiling faces we see each weekfarmers, artists, food producers, volunteers, and most importantly you, our customers. We notice when you aren't in your usual chef demo seat, we are excited to meet your new baby, and we love to make you smile as we fill your shopping bags with delicious local foods.

Thank you so much for supporting the 2013 Peachtree Road Farmers Market! We can't wait to see you on April 5 for opening day 2014 as we launch our 8th season!

Sincerely,
Lauren Carey, Market Manager

Time for stocking and snacking!

This week at PRFM...

Only two weeks of market time left to stock up for winter and buy your holiday treats! You won't want to miss our last chef demo—with the queen of Atlanta cuisine, chef Anne Quatrano (Bacchanalia, Floataway CafĂ©, Star Provisions, Provisions To Go, Quinones at Bacchanalia, and Abattoir). Our original farm-to-table restaurant visionary, this year Quatrano also published her first cookbook, Summerland: Recipes for Celebrating with Southern Hospitality. She'll be cooking from the book during the demo and signing copies afterwards (Perfect gift for your favorite foodie? Check).

Holidays are go!

This week at PRFM...

Countdown to turkey day is on! Stop by the Market for all of your fixings, from collards to sausage, sweet potatoes to green beans, kale to sweets. Also, pumpkin pie yogurt. And save the date for PRFM’s indoor holiday artist market on November 30—bring the whole family for good food and great gifts! P.S. if you can’t make it on 11/30, stop by for another artist market on December 14, the last day of the 2013 season.

Also this week, a Chef Demo from Woody Back of Table & Main (who's previously worked with Tom Colicchio and Linton Hopkins, y'all). And don't miss the Happy Nest tent, where there'll be a turkey craft for the kids to make (centerpiece, anyone?).

Coming next week!
